The bird learns to fly, the Wippsteert “flews”. On their third album of the same name, the six Low German folk rockers from the Osnabrück region are more versatile and self-confident than ever. Together with producer Matthias Lohmöller from Docmaklang-Studio in Osnabrück and the Bremen label Fuego, Wippsteert once again get rid of musical barriers without losing sight of the essentials: Folk-Rock "up Platt", which entertains but also moves.
Already in the opener "Miegklämmken" mandolin and accordion lay the folk foundation on which the Wippsteert sound is based. When singer Marcus "Bruni" Bruns starts the big pop refrain in a duet with the East Frisian entertainer Annie Heger, he makes it unmistakably clear that the listener is certainly not expecting old-fashioned folk music on "Flügge".
We dedicated the song "Is goar nich so läip" to our friend Heini, who unfortunately passed away two years ago. He was ill for a long, long time. "Is goarnich so läip - it's not that bad at all", deals with the topic of dying. That dying can be bad, but being dead isn't. It should encourage and take away fear. We sang this song together with Malte Hoyer from Versengold. Supported by Irish folk and bluegrass elements, a melancholic but never melancholy hymn about trust and confidence emerges.
When Bruni becomes a “relationship orphan” a little later, a clear post-punk impact spreads.
An exotic feature on the new album is "Hack Bolle", when the mandolin cuts through 2000s metal riffs, Wippsteert go to the extreme.
Hack Bolle - comes from: "I almost had it. Hadde ick bolle" and can often be heard in our area and is often pronounced by the elderly, abbreviated as Hack bolle. A grandma from the neighborhood said that quite often.
Because this hack Bolle sounds so hard, we made a pretty heavy song by Bolle, a rough piece of flat metal. We also had support for this song. Simon "Mr. Hurley” Erichsen von Osnabrück's flagship privateers Mr. Hurley & the powder monkeys? Whoa! Hard n Heavy up Platt. Hack Bolle!
A wind section drives the circus polka "Altobelli" forward.
The 11 songs on "Flügge"" with their staccato singing and dreamy folk melodies in "Herrenschokolade" to the rock pounder "Tinafallen" are also held together by the exclusively Low German lyrics. Typical for Wippsteert, it is the small hardships of everyday life with all their facets that become big stories.
Low German is exciting and varied. Wippsteert are now spreading their wings to spread the word and follow in BAP's footsteps.
