The Nouve - Actually, Life Is Just A Metaphysical Exercise, Isn't It? (CD)
With ACTUALLY, LIFE IS JUST A METAPHYSICAL EXERCISE, ISN'T IT? the indie collective finally leaves the well-trodden path of mainstream pop. "This record no longer follows rules, only the heart," attests head and songwriter Robert Nouve. "In a time of fake news, lies and personal isolation, we wanted to make an album that is authentic and yet not just related to itself - something that, like a good spirit, can give some meaning to life and people, that connects and is bigger than ourselves.
In that respect it was incredibly inspiring, with Jerome Avril (the head of French wave protagonists Mary Goes Round), Alison David (the voice of drum n bass legend Red Snapper), Craig Bethell (who already gave his voice to electro pioneer Mark van Hoen and his project Locust) as well as Ava Bonam (who will soon also be releasing her own new album "Dreams"), who I highly value and have repeatedly invited on board for years, whose own works I have admired over the decades have meant a lot in my life.”
And you can hear that too: the production is so atmospherically dense and lovingly detailed, the ten songs on this album are so exciting and intense that every second of it is worth your attention. Just like in life, many circles close here. The pre-single KISSING THE NIGHT represents just one facet of the album, which combines influences from trip hop, electro, rock, ambient and chamber music in a large arc and – as already indicated in the title – also deals with the topics in terms of content that go far beyond the all-too-human.
In terms of sound, the whole thing was crowned by the mastering by Chris von Rautenkranz - also a favorite of Robert Nouve. "It's not just our fourth album, where we just did everything differently than the others before - it's an organic, self-contained work, with its own sound and meaning."
