In February 2020 the band "Get the Cat" recorded two concerts at Haus Eifgen. First electric, with Gero Körner as a guest on the Hammond B3, and the following Sunday morning, acoustic with Gero Körner this time on the grand piano.
Due to the corona-related standstill in cultural life, it took until September 21 for the CD to be published. On this CD, the band presents itself with the whole diversity of its musical expression.
In the acoustic atmosphere of Sunday morning it starts with double bass, grand piano and acoustic guitar. The band shows how finely they can clothe the blues in a jazzy guise. Melanie Bartsch's warm, soft voice presents the songs, all written by Till Brandt, charmingly and casually. Jens Filser and Gero Körner shine with solos that are as tasteful as they are virtuosic.
From the 6th song we arrived in the Saturday evening program. After the instrumental opener "Ride With Mule 5", the band sounds much more powerful. "The Village In The Valley" is a song about the venerable blues club Village in Obermühltal, which Melanie Bartsch and Jens perform as a singing duet. In the further course Jens Filser then shows that he is not only a fantastic guitarist, but also a soulful singer.
So "Live at Haus Eifgen" is an extremely varied blues CD. The five musicians of "Get the Cat" not only show their individual class, but also manage to create their very own, warm and powerful band sound. The groove of the cats is always on point and yet relaxed and easygoing.
The CD closes with the wonderful, melancholic instrumental "Feeling Blue", whose organ and guitar solo invites you to enjoy it.
The production was made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
