TG Copperfield with Ben Forrester - Out In The Desert (CD)
Men on horses make their way through the dusty prairie. Water is scarce and dangers lurk everywhere. The nights are cold and the campfire, which can be seen from miles away, attracts snakes, coyotes, scorpions and bandits. - They are images of a dark Western movie, with TG Copperfield's songs inevitably appearing in front of the inner eye. With catchy, profound Roots Rock/Americana, which works both with a full band and just accompanied by an acoustic guitar, the southern German The musician is now firmly established in the scene and since his career with the southern rock band 3 Dayz Whizkey in 2017 he has released an impressive nine solo albums, all of which have been enthusiastically received by the press and his steadily growing fan base.
His latest, tenth album "Out In The Desert", which will be released on May 19th, 2023 by Timezone Records, represents a milestone for TG Copperfield in many respects. For the first time in his solo career, he has the reins in the studio out of his hands given and his fellow musicians involved left almost all freedom and only made very loose musical specifications. "Out In The Desert" was produced by Robert Hubi Hoffmann at Slash Zero Studios in Abensberg. The majority of the guitar recordings were made in the FBK Studios in Nuremberg. In the New York guitarist Ben Forrester (including Allen-Forrester Band, Jonah Smith, tour guitarist for Jade McRae and Paulie Cerra), TG Copperfield also got a musical partner on board for the first time, with whom he worked on the song material of his new work and who also takes over the e-guitar parts live.
The result is a wonderful, atmospheric Americana album with dark lyrics inspired by today's social and political issues and the feelings associated with them, such as the Ukraine war, climate change, the pandemic, the fear of losing the... wealth and the feeling of insecurity, the nameless threat in one's own self-created bubble.
Like a filmmaker, TG Copperfield transfers the current worries and hardships of the people through his music to the backdrop of a desert landscape in which vultures circle impatiently over the mounted travelers who are trying to find their way across the steppes.
"Out In The Desert" doesn't provide any solutions to problems, nor are admonitions given on the album. Transferred to this very personal album TG Copperfield expresses his emotions through musical paintings whose soundtrack is the water that the thirsty wanderer drinks. The interpretation of the songs is left up to the listeners themselves, but the final message is very simple: everything is possible, you just can't let it get you down.
The passion that TG Copperfield, Ben Forrester, Michael Air Hofmann (drums), Robert Hubi Hofmann (bass) and Claus Bächer put into "Out In The Desert" on the keys can be heard in each of the 11 tracks. The album is not only the ideal accompanying music for the ride through the prairie of life, but also makes you want to experience TG Copperfield and his fellow campaigners live on the upcoming tour.
