Dias Karimov was born in 1983 in Ufa, Russia. He comes from a traditional family of musicians and has been playing the piano since he was 6 years old. His father, pianist and composer, Airat Karimov was his classical music teacher during Dia's childhood, taught him the first steps in improvisation and still looks over his shoulder when he composes. In 1990, Dias began studying classical piano at a music high school, graduating in 2001 with distinction. In 2005, Dias completed his diploma as a concert pianist at the Ufa Academy, where he accepted an offer to work as a music teacher shortly thereafter.
His love of jazz and improvisation brought Dias to Weimar in 2008, where he completed his jazz piano studies at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. He then dedicates his skills to various crossover projects. He is currently working as a lecturer at the Music Academy in Frankfurt am Main. He also plays solo concerts, as well as performances with different musicians and styles.
“I played a lot of classical music - pieces like the ones on the CD. Not just jazz, but also their own interpretations of classical music. The pieces were part of my diploma and with this CD I can remember it. With great respect for the composer.”
