No place for guitarists? Ali Claudi and Martin Janneck present new album.
Ali Claudi is one of the pioneers of the electric guitar in Germany. His now sixty-year musical journey through all possible styles began at a time when there was rarely room for the guitar as a solo instrument in musical groups. His new song "No Place for a Guitar Man" tells of those early days.
Ali Claudis and Martin Janneck's new album "Flowers from the Guitar Men" begins with him. From the opening track it was almost automatically for the two guitarists what their CD should sound like: it had to be pop-oriented and guitar-heavy. Konstantin Wienstroer on the double bass and Kurt Billker on the drums provide the foundation on which Ali's and Martin's imaginably different guitar sounds can really unfold, both discreetly and effectively.
The selection of the other tracks is almost like a small model of Ali's musical journey. The swing classic "Fly Me to the Moon" stands next to the funk title "Sweet Emma", the rock classic "Proud Mary" next to the fifties hit "Singing the Blues". Ali and Martin wrote the closing piece "Flowers" together. The unmistakable playing style of both is the common thread of this diverse and refreshing album.
