The Neue Musikzeitung (issue 2/2016) rightly called the German-Italo-Argentinian pianist CECILIA PILLADO a pioneer and trendsetter. As early as the 1990s, she surprised the conservative "classical" listeners of the Berlin Philharmonic with an innovative repertoire and played programs with her own arrangements of traditional Argentine tangos, Piazzolla's works and her own compositions, before Guidon Kremer or Yo-Yo Ma tested the taste of tango. The piano tango program seemed so interesting that many years later she received an invitation to the Federal President's summer party at Bellevue Palace. But first the versatile artist had to go to Hollywood, where she perfected her acting talent for work in films, which later enabled her to get into German television.
The Office of the Federal President expressed its thanks with these words: "... we would like to thank you very much for your impressive performance of Argentine piano music at the Summer Festival of the Federal President. With your tango presentation you have contributed to preparing the almost 5,500 guests an unforgettable evening”.
In CEXILIA'S TANGOS, as an experienced pianist, she presents tangos from more than two centuries in brilliant and virtuosic performances, full of passion and also emotional longings. Her tango arrangements are the work of an artist for whom the piano has no secrets. Her style: a mixture of classical virtuosity and great piano sound with improvisational freedom, jazz elements and South American rhythms. The classical pianist training is noticeable in various places: echoes of Chopin, Tchaikovsky or Rachmaninoff - not to mention the tongue-in-cheek Für Elise quote at the end of "Taquito militar" - can be half heard through the texture of the piano part. In the CD booklet she explains her close relationship to this music: “These tangos are dedicated to my mother. They are shaped by the best memories of my childhood in Argentina. Coming from Buenos Aires, she always had the words of a tango ready to comment on everyday situations. One word was enough to make her sing a verse from a tango that reflected a profound folk wisdom".
