A virus comes along and orders the cultural world to come to a standstill. But the universe is more powerful and cannot be stopped. With their third big bang, The Universe By Ear worked their way further into their own sound cosmos. After the liberating I and the structured II, the trio has now explored the depths and breadths on their third self-titled work. So it's not surprising that the almost 45 minutes of music are divided into just five songs, with lengths between 7.5 and 13 minutes. The Universe By Ear continues to use angular breaks and rapid changes as stylistic devices, but there are now more parts that breathe, proliferate and at times rebel against their creators. And in the same breath, the lyrics that deal with dystopias, self-discovery and life also gain more weight. As always, not easy fare, but a massive work.
