Unplaces - Changes (2x12" vinyl album)
TR002
Regular price €24,50 "Changes", the title of the new album by Unplaces, could not have been chosen more appropriately. After all, the change in all its facets was not only the inspiration for the album concept, but also made itself felt in other ways for the formation from Bochum and Hanover. Recently separated from the previous band name NRT, the renaming itself should be the most obvious change - the most significant, however, is only with a few exceptions.
Rather, the completely new approach in terms of songwriting comes to mind in this context, the front woman and main composer Dorette Gonschorek on completely unfamiliar paths should lead. In the past, the songs were created piece by piece and completely independently of each other over a longer period of time, that was the focus this time focused on the big picture in advance. Ergo, "Changes" is a musical and textual unit, which is based on a sophisticated dramaturgy.
The trio playfully combines unobtrusive guitars with passionate vocals, rolls soft keyboard carpets over mechanical drum templates and weaves wave, rock and post-punk with careful pop elements into a varied spectacle of light-heartedness Melancholy. The lyrical component of the 14 pieces, on the other hand, approaches the chosen complex of topics critically with the question of meaning and self-determination in times of medialization, information overload, globalization and consumer pressure. How are you supposed to keep up with the constant change in society, or better yet, to put it in the words of the title track:
What are changes for? The answer to that is between the lines of "Changes" too misplace.
