What I want to express with these songs is the story of a woman who has had to travel from country to country in search of the meaning of her life. It became clear to me that it is not possible for me to find meaning in life without having recognized my own roots.
So in the last two years I have started another journey: the journey to myself and into my past. I often heard my grandmother's voice in my mind, standing behind the stove and singing:
Gece sakit çay axir
Lal sularda ay axir...
The night is silent
The river flows
And the moon shines in the silent river...
That voice was like a kind of guide that brought me back to myself. From the moment of this realization I was able to feel the ground beneath my feet. Gradually, I felt roots that found footing in the new soil. And, from that moment on, I realized that only if a tree's roots reach deep into the earth can that tree grow tall.
I started collecting songs from my childhood with the accompaniment and support of gifted musicians such as Benjamin Stein, Steffen Thormählen, Uwe Böttcher, Manfred Leuchter and Mohamed Najem. We have tried to edit them in such a way that the pure and innocent character of these songs is not lost, but that they may even blossom into new ones. I wish that.
